Decoding Uniden and Radio Shack Production Codes

Radio Shack:

Decoding the date code on your Radio Shack scanner is as follows.

The date code consists of a number (from 1 to 12), followed by the letter "A", followed by another number (from 0-9).

The first number represents the month of manufacture, while the last number represents the year. (The "A" acts as a separator.)
For example, the date code

3A4     would decode to  March 1974 or March 1984 or March 1994

Note that the decade can't be precisely determined but a quick check in a Radio Shack Catalog will help you to determine a decade.

Uniden Bearcat:

Decoding the date code on your Uniden Bearcat scanner is as follows.

The date code consists of a two digit code representing the month followed by another two digit code representing the year.
For example, the date code

0AID     would decode to  Jan 1994   0A = Jan (A=1, first month of year)    ID =94 (I=9, D=4)

0EIC     would decode to May 1993     0E = May (E=5, fifth month of year)   IC = 93 (I=9, C=3)

0CI0     would decode to March 1990     0C = March (C=3, third month of year)   I0 = 90 (I=9, 0=0)

A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E=5, F=6, G=7, H=8, I=9, 0=0
